Lasallian Student Convocation at the UN

The defense and promotion of the rights of children is a major focus of concern for the Catholic Lasallian mission. The 2009-2010 academic year starts the beginning of a three-year catechetical effort on the intersection of the Lasallian educational mission and social justice promotion and advocacy, with the ultimate objective that the US Senate will ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 2011-2012. With the rights of children as the major focus of concern, this regional initiative aims to integrate the educational, formational and transformational aspects of evangelization and catechesis in a Lasallian context.

The Lasallian Student Convocation at the United Nations will be held at the UN headquarters in New York City, April 25-29, 2010. This participatory event will include speakers and discussions with UN officials, diplomatic ambassadors, and NGO leaders; interactive workshops on global issues; a leadership and social justice advocacy seminar; a tour of the UN; cross-cultural exchange; and building connections among fellow Lasallians.
