About LIFT
As Lasallian educators, we believe students benefit from having strong male role models in the classroom, yet fewer than 18% of teachers in private schools are men. LIFT is working to help change that by inviting young men to consider teaching as a vocation, developing their skills through immersive educational experiences, and forming them in the values and mission of Saint John Baptist de La Salle. Through classroom learning, coaching, service, cultural immersion and hands-on experiences, LIFT is preparing the next generation of men to lead, teach, coach and make a lasting difference in the lives of young people.
Updates from Cohort II
The LIFT program continues its international immersion experience in Colombia, where members of Cohort II are deepening their understanding of education, faith, culture and leadership through the Lasallian mission.
During their time in Bogotá, participants engaged in Spanish language studies, global Christianity coursework, cultural excursions and classroom observations at Colegio De La Salle. This visit offered a firsthand look at a thriving Lasallian educational community, where family engagement, student development, technology integration and a strong sense of belonging are all central to the school’s mission. Interacting with the students and faculty there gave participants new insights they hope to bring into their own future classrooms.
Program director Brother Pat Conway, FSC, noted how the intensive experience challenges and inspires participants as they prepare for careers as teachers, mentors and leaders in the Lasallian tradition.
The experience provided these future educators with valuable opportunities to broaden their perspectives, build cross-cultural relationships and explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
Participants reflected on the impact of cultural immersion, highlighting the hospitality of the Colombian people, the value of learning another language and the importance of understanding different educational systems and community traditions. Several participants shared how the experience has expanded their vision of what is possible in education and strengthened their commitment to serving young people.
The group is continuing their journey in Colombia, the experience remains focused on forming educators who embody the Lasallian values of faith, service, community and respect for all persons.
