Bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester Receives Letters of Affiliation

Bishop John M. Quinn, the bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, received Letters of Affiliation (AFSC) during a ceremony held August 25, 2021, at the Brothers’ residence at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona.

Bishop Quinn has served Saint Mary’s since 2008, including by teaching in the theology department. He regularly joins the Brothers in their community for Mass and dinner. Bishop Quinn recently received approval from the Vatican to allow the Diocese of Winona-Rochester to celebrate the feast of Brother James Miller, FSC, a Saint Mary’s alumnus who was shot and killed by three gunmen on February 13, 1982, as he was repairing a wall outside the school at which he served in Huehuetenango, Guatemala.

Affiliation is a formal recognition and acknowledgement extended by the Institute to those persons who have supported the Brothers in their work, not only through outstanding gifts and services, but also through their professional, personal and fraternal relationship with them. In presenting to them Letters of Affiliation, the Brothers welcome and celebrate affiliates as honorary members of the Institute.
