Brother Joseph

Brother Joseph (Lorian Josephus) Wilhelm, FSC, of the Midwest District, died September 6, 2011 at Carmel Manor in Fort Thomas, KY at age 89.

A Brother for 69 years, he was born Raymond Carl, the son of Raymond and Anna (Mueller) Wilhelm in Covington, KY. Brother Joseph graduated from Newport Catholic High School and entered the novitiate of the Christian Brothers in 1942 in Glencoe, MO. He pronounced his final vows in 1948 at Beaver Island, MI. Brother Joseph earned a B.S.S. degree in 1946 from Saint Mary’s College (now University) in Winona, MN, and an M.A. degree from the same college in 1954.

During his years as a teacher he served in Chicago, IL; St. Paul, MN; Jefferson City, MO; Memphis, TN; and Santa Fe, NM. From 1963 to 1977 he taught at Newport Catholic High School, and later he served at St. Henry High School in Erlanger, St. Joseph Villa and La Salle High School in Cincinnati, and Bishop Brossard High School in Alexander, KY. He retired in 1986 at St. Anne-Chaplains Residence in Melbourne, KY, and in 2004 he moved to Carmel Manor in Ft. Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, September 12 at St. Joseph Church in Fort Thomas.
