The Regional Education Advisory Committee (REAC) gathered in New Orleans, Louisiana, January 26-27, 2015. Dr. Maggie McCarty, Executive Director of Christian Brothers Conference, called together mission and education staff from the District of Eastern North America, the Midwest District and the San Francisco New Orleans District to review current Regional programs and discuss possible responses to emerging needs.

The committee reviewed the results of a survey taken of current chief administrators in schools in the Lasallian Region of North America concerning what new Lasallian administrators need to know as they step into office. Based on the survey’s results, Dr. McCarty and the committee identified elements for a chief administrator’s orientation, which could be implemented on both the District and Regional levels. A preview of the orientation proposal will be provided at the upcoming Lasallian Association of Secondary School Chief Administrators (LASSCA) Conference in San Diego, California, February 22-25, 2015.

Other topics included a discussion of themes for upcoming Huether Lasallian Conferences, as well as modifications to the Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies schedule. The group gave considerable attention to the March 2015 sessions of the Brother John Johnston Institute of Contemporary Lasallian Practice and heard overviews of each District’s plans. The committee also had a far-ranging discussion about formation and formation resource development in light of the Acts of the 45th General Chapter. At the close of the meetings, each District provided a snapshot of the wide array of retreats and formation programs sponsored by its District office.

REAC members include: from Christian Brothers Conference, Dr. Maggie McCarty, Executive Director, and Alisa Macksey, Regional Programs Director; from the District of Eastern North America, Alan Weyland, Executive Director for Mission and Ministry, and Maryann Donahue-Lynch, Associate Executive Director for Mission and Ministry; from the Midwest District, Dr. Scott Kier, Superintendent of Lasallian Education; from the District of San Francisco New Orleans, Gery Short, Director, Office of Education – Mont La Salle, Dr. Greg Kopra, Director, Formation for Mission, Heather Ruple, Director, Young Lasallians, and Charlie Legendre, AFSC, Director, Office of Education – Covington.
