Students at De Marillac Academy in San Francisco, CA, are discovering their voices and opening eyes with the publication of Rise Above, the first annual De Marillac Eighth Grade Anthology. Rise Above features powerful poems that highlight the students’ vision, compassion and strength.
These young writers from the Tenderloin neighborhood are largely overlooked by the wider public because of the challenging conditions that exist there. This publication amplifies their voices with their inspiring words on issues like the dangers surrounding them and finding a new path forward.
The book is available for $20 with proceeds going to De Marillac’s Graduate Support Program to support the authors during their upcoming high school years.
