SUMMARY:Saint Martyrs of Turón
DESCRIPTION:In 1934\, Turón\, a coal-mining town in the Asturias Province in Northwestern Spain\, was the center of anti-government and anticlerical hostility in the years prior to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. The Brothers’ school was an irritant to the radicals in charge of the town because of the religious influence it exerted on the young. The Brothers were known to defy the ban on teaching religion and they openly escorted their students to Sunday Mass. \nMore from the Institute

SUMMARY:Addressing Social\, Emotional and Spiritual Learning through Advisories Webinar
DESCRIPTION:This formation webinar is part of the Fall 2023 Webinar Series\, presented by the Lasallian Region of North America.  \n Addressing Social\, Emotional and Spiritual Learning Through Advisories\n\nDate: Wednesday\, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. ET \nSpeakers: Christine Buell\, Assistant Principal for Student Life\, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory\, San Francisco\, CA\, and Nicole Nastari\, Dean of Students\, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory\, San Francisco\, CA \nWhile the concept of advisories is not new\, we have reconfigured them to provide a vehicle by which to address the social and emotional needs that have emerged for our students from the pandemic. As current research has suggested\, teenagers are more anxious than ever and in need of more support and education. \nAdvisories create a space in which we can promote wellness strategies\, address social-emotional learning and deepen community connections across class levels. Throughout the school year\, we use the time and space in advisory to explore various topics\, including diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, belonging\, positive relationship strategies\, neurodiversity\, stress management\, mindfulness and community-wide spirit activities. Furthermore\, advisories create high-impact leadership opportunities that further promote the development of intellectual\, social and emotional skills. We will cover the practicalities of organizing lesson plans\, selecting and training student advisory leaders and community-wide involvement that make this programming so effective. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Commemoration of the Transfer of the Relics of Saint John Baptist de La Salle
DESCRIPTION:John Baptist de La Salle was buried in the chapel of St. Suzanne on Holy Saturday\, April 8\, 1719. On July 6\, 1734\, his body was transferred to a chapel at Saint Yon. The tomb was vandalized during the French Revolution but the relics were not. In 1841\, the superiors received approval to have the relics moved to the Generalate. \n\n\n\nAfter the Brothers were expelled from France in 1904\, the relics were taken from Rouen to Lembecq-lez-Hal in Belgium. In 1937 they were transported to Rome where they arrived on January 26\, the anniversary of the promulgation in 1725 of the Bull of Approbation of the Institute. The relics are now in the church of Saint John Baptist de La Salle at the Generalate in Rome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more >
