La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA, is one of 73 colleges and universities in the nation to be identified as a Lead Institution, and will participate in the Lead Initiative of NASPA: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, an organization for the student affairs profession.
By participating in the initiative, La Salle will continue to encourage students’ civic development through thoughtful community partnerships, engaging leadership opportunities, and democratic participation.
More than 67,000 hours of community service were performed in 2012-2013 by La Salle students. Programs that benefitted the community include: AIDS Outreach, Neighborhood Tutoring, Pheed Philadelphia, Neighbor to Neighbor, Circle K, La Salle Organization Caring for Kids (LOCK), Police Athletic League (PAL), Team Lasallians, and St. Raymond.
Institutions selected to be a part of the initiative represent public and private four-year and two-year colleges and universities, and have committed to a series of strategies to work on continuing the students’ commitment to civic learning and democratic engagement on and off campus.
