Lasallian Publications in RELAN

The Lasallian Publications Committee (LPC) has released an eight-page document exploring the history and current efforts of Lasallian publications in the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN). The document is intended to inform Lasallians about past publications efforts, share recent efforts and invite collaboration for future projects.

The commitment to publications in the Region dates back decades, with an effort spanning 1987–2002 that produced 18 volumes on the life, writings and work of Saint John Baptist de La Salle. The volumes were published in two series, consisting of new English translations and editions of the complete works of De La Salle, along with biographies and studies.

The current LPC was formed in 2016 and has produced several publications designed to share the Lasallian heritage, encourage spiritual growth and share contemporary stories of experiences in the mission. Project management is overseen by a member of the committee in collaboration with the communications office of Christian Brothers Conference. Publications include:

  • Let Us Remember: Stories of the Holy Presence of God (2018), edited by Brother George Van Grieken, FSC, featuring reflections from Lasallians on how they have experienced God’s presence in their work and ministry;
  • The Teacher’s Saint: John Baptist de La Salle, Patron Saint of Teachers, by Brother George Van Grieken, FSC, a short biography on De La Salle available in English (2019), Spanish (2020) and French (2020); and
  • Meditations for the Time of Retreat: A Lasallian Home Retreat (2020), authored by Brother Vincent Pelletier, FSC, and edited by Brother Tim Coldwell, FSC, available in hardback and paperback, featuring De La Salle’s Meditations for the Time of Retreat coupled with Scripture passages to deepen the reflection of each meditation.

The LPC is currently in the final stages of producing the English translation of the critical biography Jean-Baptiste de La Salle: A Mystic in Action.
