Martin De Porres (MDP) Academy has opened a Group Residential Care Facility to serve young men between the ages of 14-21. The facility is part of a partnership between the New York State Department of Education and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. The first residents were received in October 2008.
In addition to the opening of the residential facility, MDP has initiated a program of Lasallian formation to be housed in the newly opened Retreat Center in Elmont, New York. The center will host a gathering of Lasallian child care educators, counselors, and mentors during the month of October. The center will be available for Lasallian formation programs for MDP staff, including counseling and retreat gatherings for students.
The final phase of MDP’s recent expansion included the move of its academic high school from Brooklyn to Rosedale, Queens. The Elmont Career Academy has also increased MDP’s service capacity. The MDP Lasallian Ministry Network now includes three schools, the group residence, two group homes, two after school centers, and the formation center.
