The Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools has released the latest Lasallian Reflection 12 for the 2026-2027 liturgical year. Titled “Building a Fraternal World: Pedagogy of Fraternity, Pedagogy of Encounter,” the publication challenges Lasallians to place fraternity at the center of education and community life. It is intended for all Lasallians across the world: students, educators, administrators, Brothers and ministry partners.

The theme remains within the “Lasallian DNA” framework that first launched in 2022. It was co-written by Brother General Councilor Rafael Cerrón Sigala, FSC, and Adriana Bolaños Hernández of International Council for Lasallian Association and the Educational Mission (CIAMEL).

The reflection reminds us that true fraternity begins with recognizing the dignity of every person and responding with compassion, solidarity and respect. Drawing on the example of Jesus’ encounters with those on the margins, the publication calls educators to create welcoming environments where students feel seen, valued and loved. It presents the “pedagogy of fraternity” as a way of forming young people who build relationships, practice empathy, care for the vulnerable and work for the common good.

The reflection further emphasizes shared leadership, accompaniment and a commitment to creating a more just, peaceful and fraternal world through the Lasallian mission.

“Lasallian education today is called to form students in the meaning of life, and this is achieved through the experience of fraternity; when a person feels part of a community, recognized, welcomed and loved for who they are” (Lasallian Reflection 12, p. 18).

As you unpack this Lasallian Reflection 12, we invite those in our ministries in the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN) to consider the following questions and explore how we can continue building a culture of belonging, compassion and shared mission.

  1. How are we creating a school community where every student, family and colleague feels recognized, welcomed and valued?
  1. Who are the individuals or groups on the margins of our community/communities, and how can we more intentionally accompany and support them?
  1. What practical steps can we take to make fraternity, encounter and solidarity more visible in our daily interactions, programs, and decision-making?
