New Painting of Blessed James Miller, FSC

A new painting of Brother James Miller, FSC, is now available. The painting, by artist Salvatore Seme, shows Brother James with his students in Guatemala. A Mayan pyramid is shown in the background to highlight the fundamental role that Mayan civilization has played in Guatemalan history. The students are wearing traditional Guatemalan clothing and holding farming equipment to represent their peasant world. One boy is pictured holding a book to show the commitment that the boys had to furthering their education. Brothers James, pictured in his habit, is shown as a serene and reassuring figure. The painting is on display at the Generalate of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Rome. Read the full painting description >

Brother James was killed on February 13, 1982, while repairing a wall outside La Casa Indígena De La Salle in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Brother James was beatified on December 7, 2019. Learn more about Brother James from the Midwest District >
