Register Now for Summer LSJI

The 2011 Lasallian Social Justice Institute (LSJI) will take place Sunday, July 10 through Thursday, July 14 at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN with the theme “Civil Rights.” LSJI is a Lasallian formation program for Partners and Brothers in the USA-Toronto Region based on the Gospel and our Lasallian vocation seeking social justice and service to the poor.

The theme is based on the understanding of social justice in scripture and the life of Jesus, as well as in the writings of St. John Baptist de La Salle and recent documents of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. The focus includes the Rights of the Child, an Institute priority which supports the right of children to a quality education and the Church’s call to solidarity with the poor. The Lasallian theme of association for mission will also be highlighted.

Participants will visit many places in Memphis, including the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated.

While all Lasallians are welcome to participate in LSJI, the program may be especially valuable to those in campus ministry, service learning, or social action; those who teach in a related field at the high school or university level; and those from childcare agencies.

The number of participants is limited to 30 people, with a maximum of five per ministry. The deadline to register is Monday, May 23, 2011. Learn more about the event and how to register.
