Christian Brothers University (CBU) in Memphis, Tennessee, will host the McLaughlin Social Justice Institute of Lasallian Practice (MSJI), a two-week intensive academic community and immersion experience from June 18 – July 1, 2023. Students who will be rising high school seniors or rising college freshmen, sophomores or juniors are invited to attend. Blending classroom instruction, visits from leading experts in law and medicine, and trips throughout the Memphis community, participants will learn about issues pertaining to social justice and inequity, such as generational poverty and homelessness, food scarcity, challenges faced by immigrants, and inequity in education and healthcare.
Students will earn three college credits for their participation in MSJI. The program fee is $1,350, which includes room, board, books, fees and admission to Memphis-area museums. Scholarships are available. MSJI is limited to 26 students total, split between 13 young women and 13 young men. Registration is open now and closes May 5, 2023.
