Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga honored Superior General Brother Robert Schieler, FSC, with an honorary degree at its annual De La Salle Week Convocation April 22, 2015.
Brother Robert received Saint Mary’s highest academic degree, Doctor of Educational Leadership. In his convocation address, Brother Robert stressed the important role higher education will play in the Lasallian mission in this century.
“We are extremely honored by the visit of Superior General Brother Robert Schieler to the College,” said Saint Mary’s President James Donahue. “He is a deeply faithful and dedicated leader and his example of focused service in support of the principles of the Christian Brothers, and the patron saint of teachers Saint John Baptist de La Salle, is a model for our students and the entire Lasallian community.”

The convocation is the centerpiece of De La Salle Week, a weeklong celebration of the life of Saint La Salle, founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Brother Robert participated in the various aspects of De La Salle Week and met with various groups on campus including students, faculty, administration, trustees and the Brothers’ communities.
Additionally, his California visit included dinner with members of the District of San Francisco New Orleans leadership and presidents and principals of local Lasallian ministries, and a visit to De La Salle Academy in Concord, a Miguel model school, which is a division of De La Salle High School and opened this academic year.
