The search for the first Executive Director of the new Lasallian Education Association (LEA) for the USA-Toronto Region continues. According to General Councilor Brother Robert Schieler, “This position and the Lasallian Education Association Council are new structures in response to the Brothers’ last two General Chapters and the 2006 International Assembly’s call for new structures of voice and vote between the local and international levels of the worldwide Lasallian Institute.”
The new structure recognizes that Lay Partners will increasingly hold greater leadership responsibilities in ministries. The changes are intended to better position and prepare Partners for those roles. The structure was proposed by the Regional Task Force and approved by the Visitors last year.
The Executive Director will report to the Lasallian Educational Council (LEAC), which is comprised of Brothers and Partners. Key responsibilities include:
• Representing Lasallian education at the national and international levels
• Promoting the viability and vitality of the Lasallian educational mission in
• Regional mission formation and educational programs
• Major fundraising/development initiatives
• Association initiatives/programs
The redesigned Regional Conference will be based at the Christian Brothers Conference in Washington, DC. The search process is expected to be completed in February 2011 with a start date of July 1, 2011.
