World Teachers’ Day: a Reminder of Why We Teach

October 1, 2026

Kelly Hall didn’t set out to find a lifelong calling in Browning, Montana. But teaching at De La Salle Blackfeet School turned a season of service into a vocation.

In her reflection for AXIS: Journal of Lasallian Higher Education, Hall writes about how that change happened. It didn’t come in one moment of clarity. It grew slowly through showing up each day, staying through the hard days and learning to see the sacred in every student.

For her, vocation is an ongoing conversion. It’s renewed in the classroom, in community and in the quiet faithfulness of doing the work well.

On World Teachers’ Day, October 5, we honor all educators and especially those in the Lasallian charism who live that calling every day, often without notice, always with heart.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, patron saint of educators, pray for us.
Live, Jesus, in our hearts … Forever!
