It was a weekend of renewal, reflection and planning for the young Brothers of the Region who gathered at Daylesford Abbey in suburban Philadelphia, PA, for their spring retreat from April 5-7.

The gathering began with Bro. John Crawford, professor of Religious Education at La Salle University, presenting and facilitating discussion on Circular 466: They will call themselves Brothers.

The Brothers also devoted time to preparing for the International Young Brothers Assembly this summer in the Philippines, including creating and signing a statement of beliefs and hopes which will be presented at the assembly. Brothers David Caretti and Christopher Patiño from the San Francisco District and Brothers Anwar Martinez and Peter Nguyen from District of Eastern North America (DENA) will represent the Lasallian Region of North America at the International Young Brothers Assembly.

“This gathering provided me with great hope,” said Bro. Chris. “It gave me a sense of a brotherhood that is deeply rooted in being faithful men: faithful to our mission to provide a human and Christian education to the poor, faithful to one another knowing we are called to work together and by association, and faithful to the Gospel aware of our call to be Christ to those we serve, work with, and to our Brothers.”

Other young Brothers who attended the retreat include Brothers David Deradoorian, Ken Kalinowski and Anthony Baginski from DENA, Brother Tony Elfering and Postulants Mark Engelmeyer and Johnathon Emanuelson from the Midwest District, and Brothers Patrick Martin and Roberto Martinez from the San Francisco District.

The gathering concluded with a prayer service led by General Councilor Brother Robert Schieler during which the four Brothers who will attend the international assembly were commissioned for that gathering.

Young Brothers gather for retreats/workshops twice a year traditionally during the spring and fall.
