Major donations have helped Bethlehem University in Palestine come closer to purchasing land to expand services as part of a partnership with the Custody of the Holy Land. Fundraising continues in order to reach the goal.
The Brothers Visitor of the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN) showed their support with a sizable donation in the early stages of the effort to buy the Mount David property in Bethlehem.

Brother Peter Bray (center) and Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa (right) sign the fraternal partnership agreement.
Another step in the process was the fraternal partnership signed January 31 by Bethlehem University Vice Chancellor Brother Peter Bray and Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Custos of the Holy Land. General Councilor Brother Robert Schieler, FSC represented RELAN at the signing ceremony. Vicar General Brother Thomas Johnson, FSC was also in attendance.
The purchase of the property and its buildings, which are some 300 meters from and one-third the size of Bethlehem’s current campus, will provide the facilities for current, new, and expanded bachelors and masters programs as well as enhanced community service and research activities designed to meet the needs of the Palestinian people and the Church in the Holy Land.
Bethlehem University still must fundraise $5.5 million of the estimated $13.8 million cost, not including renovation or landscaping needs, in order to complete the purchase. For more information or to donate, contact Brother Jack Curran, FSC, PhD, Bethlehem University Vice President for Development, at jcurran@bethlehem.edu.
