There are seven colleges and universities within the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN), which includes Bethlehem University located in Palestine, the first Catholic university in the Holy Land. Enrollment in these institutions of higher education total approximately 23,555 students, 30% of whom are in a graduate studies program. They stimulate minds and cultivate leadership to prepare students for life, work and service to society and the Church.
The Lasallian Association of Colleges and Universities (LACU) and the Lasallian Association of College and University Mission Officers (LACUMO) provide forums for interaction and collaboration among the presidents and mission officers of Lasallian colleges and universities in the Region. LACU and LACUMO meet regularly regarding common plans, programs, challenges and opportunities.
These schools include a unique model called San Miguel schools, which was founded in the United States more than 30 years ago. San Miguel schools are non-tuition driven schools primarily located in urban neighborhoods serving students and families of limited resources. Many of the schools offer extended day programs, summer camps and graduate support.
Educational and retreat centers serve Lasallians of all ages in the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN). These ministries include retreat centers, adult/family learning centers, tutoring centers, summer camps and other programs for youth.
Lasallian secondary schools are open to all – regardless of religion, race or economic status. Schools offer generous financial aid to help students in need pursue academic excellence. Three secondary schools follow the Cristo Rey model, which empowers students from families of limited means by challenging students with college preparatory courses while placing students with local businesses where they work once a week to help offset the cost of tuition.
The Lasallian mission in the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN) is engaged in special educational ministries that serve disadvantaged youth and their families. Youth and family services provided include adjudicated youth programs, special education centers, counseling and support programs, and group homes. Most of these sites offer career and technical training or some form of academic credit, with the most common becoming diplomas for the completion of high school-level courses.
The Lasallian mission is present in 79 countries around the world, with approximately 2,689
De La Salle Christian Brothers and more than 99,000 Lasallian Partners serving 1.1 million young people in over 1,160 educational ministries.
The educational mission in the Lasallian Region of North America serves over 102,645 people in the United States and Canada through a network of 85 ministries, including: seven colleges and universities; nearly 60 elementary and secondary schools (including eight San Miguel-model and three in the Cristo Rey network); nine educational centers, retreat centers and summer camps; five support ministries; and five youth and family services.
