Brother Kevin Stanislaus Mackey, RIP

Brother Kevin Stanislaus Mackey, FSC, 93, died at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago on August 22nd. A Brother of the Christin Schools for 75 years, he was born Bartley Vincent Mackey to Thomas and Eleanor (O’Connor) Mackey of Chicago.

He attended St. George High School in Evanston and later graduated from La Salle Institute in Glencoe, Missouri. He joined the Institute in 1933, professed his first vows in 1934 and took his perpetual vows in 1940. Brother Kevin earned his BA degree in 1937 from Saint Mary’s College in Winona, Minnesota, and his MA from St. Louis University in 1946.

During his years as an educator he taught in Kansas City, St. Louis and Jefferson City, Missouri, Muskegon in Missisippi, Boys Town, Nebraska, and St. Paul, Minnesota, where he served as assistant principal and principal from 1952 to 1962. Then he moved to St. Mel High School and De La Salle Institute in Chicago, Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, and Providence High School in New Lenox, Illinois. In 1980 he started teaching at Driscoll Catholic High School in Addison, Illinois, until his retirement in 1989.

Brother Kevin is survived by his brother, William Mackey of Chicago, and the Brothers of the Midwest District. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Philip the Apostle Church on August 26th. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville.
