Brother Miguel Campos, RIP

Brother Miguel Campos, FSC, of the District of Eastern North America, died on January 4, 2024. He was 85 years old.

Born in Guantanamo, Cuba, on June 17, 1938, Brother Miguel joined the Brothers of the Christian Schools in 1959. Brother Miguel was known as a leading Lasallian scholar of the post-Vatican II generation. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.

Brother Miguel played a critical role in the design of both the Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies and the Lasallian Leadership Institute that was later reimagined as the Brother John Johnston Institute of Contemporary Lasallian Practice.

Beyond the Institute, Brother Miguel held positions in the religious education and Latino ministry offices of the archdioceses of Newark and Philadelphia. He led the Office of Multicultural and International Affairs at La Salle University. He returned to his homeland and served as pastoral coordinator and director of youth ministry in the Diocese of Santiago, Cuba. In 2020, Brother Miguel was called to Rome to serve as General Councilor.
