Brother Nick González, FSC, Visitor of the District of San Francisco New Orleans (SFNO), has been elected to serve as a member-at-large on the board of the Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM).
CMSM is a national representative organization serving leaders of men’s religious congregations, monastic communities, and religious institutes in the United States. The conference is “the common voice and primary common resource for its members,” representing more than 200 monastic communities and provinces that include over 16,000 Catholic religious-order priests and brothers, per its website.
Commenting on his appointment, Brother Nick said, “I stood for election because I’m profoundly grateful to CMSM for their fraternal accompaniment during some very challenging times. Because I know the difference CMSM can make, I want to help ensure that it continues to do so. Also, I believe that it’s important to have Brothers at the table and sharing our unique perspective on the Church.”
Tom Southard, Ph.D., executive director of Christian Brothers Conference, said, “Congratulations to Brother Nick on his election to this role. His thoughtful leadership and generous spirit have been so important to the Lasallian mission in North America. CMSM plays a vital role in strengthening and supporting religious life across the United States, and we know Brother Nick will serve with wisdom, joy and humility. We are proud of him and assure him of our prayers as he takes on this leadership role.”
Brother Nick holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico. He has served as a teacher and administrator in schools throughout SFNO, and founded San Miguel High School in Tucson, Arizona.
He was SFNO’s Auxiliary Visitor from 2019-2022 and was appointed the District’s Visitor in 2022. In 2026, he was reappointed for a second four-year term as Visitor of SFNO.
