Father Kenan Osborne, OFM, who was active in Lasallian formation programs over many years, passed away on April 19, 2019. He was 88 years old.
Father Kenan was an internationally known scholar and teacher, having lectured throughout the world and authored or co-authored more than 21 books and more than 70 articles and reviews. Serving in roles from local chaplain to international lecturer, Father Kenan shared his vision of a global Catholic Church.
Father Kenan received the Brother John Johnston, FSC Award in 2010 in recognition of his significant service to the Lasallian mission. Among his contributions to the mission, Father Kenan helped develop the Lasallian Leadership Institute and served as a presenter from its initial Cohort I in the summer of 1997 through Cohort IV in the summer of 2007. He served as celebrant at the Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies liturgy, and he was the keynote presenter at the 2006 Huether Lasallian Conference. He also mentored a number of Lasallian educators and facilitated retreats.
A vigil will be held for Father Kenan Friday, April 26, 2019, at the Franciscan School of Theology’s Serra Chapel at the Mission at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, April 27 in the Mission Church at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow in the Friars’ Mausoleum.
