The summer camp at St. John Baptist de La Salle Educational Center in Homestead, FL opened June 14 with 60 children from area migrant families attending. The 10-week program offers remedial math, reading and other subjects, as well as games and swimming for the kids. Lunches, snacks, transportation to the pool site and individualized care are provided free.
The work of the center was cited at the recent BICE (Catholic International Bureau for Children) International Congress held in Paris, France in May 2011. The center offers training for women migrants who are in need of skills that can provide them with income for their families. Children are given study help and tutoring to improve their performance in school.
The center is fully funded by donations of Lasallian alumni and friends. If you would like to support this ministry, please e-mail Jose M. Dorado.
