Institute Announces New Leadership Structure

The Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools is implementing a new structure for leadership, animation and governance in order to better respond to the calls of the 46th General Chapter, the 3rd International Assembly of the Lasallian Educational Mission and the Leavening Project.

In a June 4 message, Brother Superior General Armin Luistro, FSC, explained the changes, saying that the new model “will allow us to build on the gains of the past, be more dynamic in responding to the emerging needs of the world and facilitate our discernment and implementation of the inspirations from the Holy Spirit.”

The seven Institute commissions (Association, Consecrated Life, Education, Evangelization, Formation, Justice and Peace, and Youth) will support and advise the three Institute councils (General Council, new CIAMEL and International Economic Council). The councils are the policy-making bodies for the Lasallian family and advise the Superior General. The Institute offices (Information and Communication, Vocations and Volunteer Ministry, Professional Development, Safeguarding and Integrity, ICJM Consortium, Solidarity and Integrity, and Data Management and Research) carry out specific services.

Brother Armin outlined these three significant changes that will happen in the coming months:

  1. the reorganization of Institute governance structures;
  1. a plenary assembly to held in Rome in July 2024 with the Visitors, members of the Institute councils and the chairs of the Institute commissions; and
  1. appointments to Institute commissions and offices.

Two leaders from the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN) were included in appointments recently released. Brother Steven Vasoli, FSC, will chair the Commission on Consecrated Life, and Charlie Legendre will chair the Commission on Evangelization. Commission chairs will be based in their home Districts. A full list of appointments will be released when it is finalized.

This document and an accompanying video explain the new governance structures in more detail.
