International Lasallian Effort to Assist Flood Victims

The Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools’ Office of Solidarity and Development and the La Salle Foundation have launched an emergency appeal to raise funds to provide food and basic necessities for victims of the ongoing floods in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Heavy rains beginning in late April have resulted in record-breaking flooding that has displaced millions and taken the lives of 147 people.

Lasallian institutions in Porto Alegre, Canoas, Esteio and Sapucaia do Sul are surrounded by water and have been evacuated due to floodwaters’ penetration into the sewage system, which poses a significant risk of spreading infectious diseases. In the wake of the disaster, many Lasallian students and educators have lost their homes and are enduring severe challenges.

Donations to the emergency fund can be made on La Salle Foundation’s website.
