The excitement of international gatherings is building as Lasallians from the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN) head to Brazil for the International Lasallian Youth Meeting (ILYG or EIJL) in Niterói July 20-22 and World Youth Day (WYD) in Rio de Janeiro July 23-28.
More than 450 Lasallians from around the world are registered for the ILYG. Dr. Margaret McCarty, Executive Director of the Office of Lasallian Education, will attend both events and tweet highlights from @Maggie_McCarty. McCarty and her husband, Dr. Robert McCarty, executive director of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, will lead a catechesis session at WYD on behalf of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
A group almost 20 Brothers, postulants and contacts from the Midwest District and the District of Eastern North America will be among Lasallians from RELAN in Brazil as well, not only to experience the events but also to promote the vocation of the De La Salle Christian Brother. Follow their blog for updates from WYD. Also among Lasallians attending, members of the Vietnamese Lasallian Youth Troupe of De La Salle Chapel in San Jose, CA, will perform at ILYG.
