Saint Mary’s, Berkeley, Presents Donation for St. Mary’s, Nyeri

Bro DominicSaint Mary’s College High School in Berkeley, CA presented $2,240 for St. Mary’s Boys Secondary School in Nyeri, Kenya. Brother Dominic Jordan accepted the donation during his annual visit to the school November 16, 2011, just two months before his death. Often times, Bro. Dominic would return to Kenya with tee shirts and sweatshirts from Berkeley to share with the African school of the same name.

During his November 16 visit, students presented him with $2,240 raised from bake sales, candy bar sales, and other efforts during the past year. As Bro. Dominic explained, that amount would cover the tuition, room, and board for three high school students at St. Mary’s in Kenya.

Additionally, the third annual Saint Mary’s 24 Hour Read-a-thon on Friday, December 2, 2011 raised $2,117 for St. Mary’s in Nyeri. Teams of two readers sponsored a Kenyan child for an entire year through pledges for the Read-a-thon.

Currently, the Saint Mary’s Social Action-Lasallian Team (S.A.L.T.) is developing new ways to provide steady money to support its twin school. The program engages in living the Gospel through Christian community service.
