Saint Mary’s College HS Celebrates 150 Years

Saint Mary’s College High School in Berkeley, CA, opened its Sesquicentennial Year at a school assembly August 31, 2012. The assembly was preceded by a birthday cake celebration during which 600 pieces of cake were distributed.

 

logoThe school will mark the 150th anniversary at events throughout the year leading up to the main celebration to close the year in June 2013, which is a Mass and reception on campus for students, alumni, parents, and friends. Annual campus events will highlight the anniversary throughout the academic year including a golf tournament, homecoming, reception for donors, and Founder’s Day activities. Students and faculty will undertake history-related projects throughout the year as well.

Saint Mary’s was dedicated with Saint Mary’s College in July 1863. The Brothers took over administration in 1868. After a few location changes and a separation from the college, Saint Mary’s has been at its Peralta Park campus for 85 years.

Saint Mary’s College of California launches its 150th festivities September 15. La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA, kicked off its 150th anniversary celebration in August.
