San Miguel Providence is “Earning for Eritrea”

San Miguel

Students at the San Miguel School of Providence, RI surpassed their fundraising goal for their twin school, Nativity School in Shinara Village, Keren, Eritrea. The students raised more than $2,100 which shattered the goal of $1,000.

The fundraising campaign started with a prayer service and reflections on Lent and Nativity School. The “Earning for Eritrea” campaign encouraged students to fill jars placed in each classroom with change. At the end of each week, the class that raised the most earned a small prize. The class with the highest total by the end of Lent earned a special class party.

The Junior Lasallian Youth group planned events throughout Lent to help motivate and encourage students to participate in this service project. Those events included a dress down day, a bake sale, and an after school game night. The school also hosted a special St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s dress down day and bake sale during which students and faculty dressed in red and green, and enjoyed Italian and Irish baked goods at lunch.

San Miguel also involved the community in collecting donations by promoting the campaign through signs and announcements to encourage mentors and visitors to stop by to donate.
