Students from the Martin de Porres Schools in New York and the San Miguel Schools in Chicago, IL and were treated to traditional Thanksgiving meals, thanks to the generosity of others.
The staff at Martin de Porres Elementary/Junior High School decorated the cafeteria and served dinner to students on November 23 in three shifts. The kitchen staff worked long hours and cooked most of the food the day before. As part of the celebration, Principal John Galassi welcomed the students, two children read parts of the legend of “The Five Kernals,” and an eighth grader read her essay about what the school means to her. Each Martin de Porres location hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for its students.
Families served by the San Miguel Schools in Chicago enjoyed Thanksgiving turkeys donated by Senior Industries, a manufacturing company in Wood Dale, IL, the day before Thanksgiving. One hundred eighty frozen turkeys were distributed to San Miguel students and their families from the Back of the Yards and the Gary Comer campuses. Senior Industries has been donating turkeys to San Miguel families since 2004.
