La Salle Academy in Iligan, Lanao del Norte in the Philippines is continuing its relief operations following the December 16, 2011 typhoon that devastated the area. The school reopened January 9. Two night high school students died in the flooding, along with family members of Lasallians. Many of their homes were destroyed or damaged. LSA is offering counseling for students.

LSA’s relief operations started December 18 with goods donated by the families of Lasallians in Iligan City. In the days that followed, more goods started coming from other Lasallian schools. Donations included mainly clothes, blankets, canned goods and medicine. Volunteers sorted, packed, and distributed the items. As of January 14, 2012, the donations had helped 37,585 affected families.

Aside from items, the school also received monetary donations which they used to buy food, medicine and other necessities. Some money was also given to faculty and staff who were affected by the flooding.
