Youth Gatherings Energize Lasallians

Young people throughout the Lasallian Region of North America are more connected to the Lasallian mission and each other thanks to various summer gatherings hosted by the Districts.

In the District of Eastern North America (DENA), more than 100 students gathered for the Lasallian Youth Summer Assembly hosted at Niagara University in New York July 17-22. The assembly promoted friendship, faith and formation, with students taking part in community service activities, prayer and reflection. Students considered vocation and God’s call in their lives, while reflecting on how they can be agents of mercy and change in today’s world.

In the District of San Francisco New Orleans (SFNO), two gatherings brought youth together for immersions in faith, community and service in the areas of social justice and student leadership. The Lasallian Youth Assembly took place in El Paso, Texas, June 26 – July 1 with Lasallians from both SFNO and the District of Mexico Norte. It kicked off with a

Mass conducted in both English and Spanish. The assembly included discussions on border issues, including constitutional rights and unaccompanied minors. The students also engaged in community service. The gathering ended by asking questions about what the Lasallian family can do to educate others on the realities of immigration.

Also in SFNO, students gathered for the Lasallian Student Leaders Program July 17-22 at Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga. More than 200 students from 16 schools attended to focus on building leadership through prayer, community activities, skill sessions and more. Student committees led parts of the event, including running a blog and organizing motivational activities.

Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, hosted the Midwest District’s Lasallian Youth Gathering July 19-24. With the theme Journey Together, students were encouraged to use their talents to make an impact on their local communities. The gathering included service opportunities, prayer, reflection and time to socialize.
