In recognition of this Lasallian Year of Catechesis, the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools’ Standing Committee of Young Brothers has released a letter to encourage young Brothers in their vocation as catechists and invited them to an online dialogue to discuss the topic.
Letter to Young Brothers
In the letter, Brother Álvaro López Falcón, FSC, a young Brother from Spain, reflects on the final document of the second International Young Brothers Assembly (II IYBA) and reiterates its call to “creative fidelity” together and by association through the signs of the times.
He notes the importance of this year’s Lasallian celebrations — the tercentenary of the Bull of Approbation of the Institute, the Year of Lasallian Spirituality and the Year of Lasallian Catechesis — and what invitation it presents to the Brothers.
“We Brothers have always sought the necessary channels to deploy an integral education that is not limited exclusively to human formation, but which provides the tools for an encounter with God,” Brother Álvaro states. In addition to explicit catechesis, he emphasizes the importance of personal encounter and daily witness to provide an “authentic catechesis and realization” of the Brothers’ vocation.
The letter concludes with a call to action for the young Brothers of the Institute to serve as “mediators and ambassadors” with “fidelity and audacity” and to continue leading those entrusted to one’s care to “an encounter with the Risen Christ.”
