March 1-4 • Houston, Texas

About LASSCA

The Lasallian Association of Secondary School Chief Administrators (LASSCA) fosters and preserves a cooperative spirit among the chief administrators of Lasallian secondary schools in the Region. It establishes a forum for discussion and a vehicle for action whereby the leadership of the member schools collaborate in the promotion of the Lasallian mission. Each year, the LASSCA Conference provides an opportunity for chief administrators to gather together to develop camaraderie, and share best practices and ideas on a given theme in order to advance innovations in teaching, technology and scholarship for their students.

Brother Michael Collins Award

The Brother Michael Collins Award of excellence honors Brother Michael’s legacy and recognizes excellence in a Lasallian secondary program exemplifying some of his values, standards, and passions. Brother Michael was a beloved Christian Brother who served as teacher, administrator and mentor to many; a founding officer of LASSCA; and a prominent national figure in Catholic secondary education, over a 53-year career. The Award was created in 2012 by the Lasallian Association of Secondary School Chief Administrators (LASSCA) and is given out annually at that conference.

Award Criteria

Programs nominated for this award should demonstrate excellence in one or more of the items below. Nominated programs do not have to address all four criteria:

  • commitment to students in an urban environment
  • respect and appreciation for cultural diversity
  • love of music and the arts
  • improving access to education for the poor

Inspiring Excellence

The purpose of this award is not only to honor Brother Michael and recognize an excellent Lasallian program, but also to inspire excellence in other programs. Therefore, information about the Lasallian programs honored with this award will be published on the Regional website so that others may learn from their best practices and be inspired to perpetuate excellence at their ministries.

In 2012, LASSCA created the Brother Michael Collins Award of Excellence to recognize excellence in a Lasallian secondary school program exemplifying some of the values, standards and passions of Brother Michael and his legacy.
