Buttimer Institute Inspires Lasallians

ButtimerThe Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies recently completed another successful year with 89 participants. The Regional formation program took place from June 24 – July 6, 2012 at Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga, CA.

Of the 89 participants, 29 people took part in Buttimer 1, 33 in Buttimer 2, and 27 in Buttimer 3. The program welcomed participants from outside of the Region, including from Italy, New Zealand, India, Ireland, Australia and South Africa.

Buttimer, which started in 1984, is an intensive Lasallian formation and education program that studies the life and work of St. John Baptist de La Salle and the origins of the Lasallian educational mission. Participants meet for two-week sessions over three years with each year focused on a different aspect: the founding story, De La Salle’s education vision, and De La Salle’s spiritual vision. The goal is to provide a deeper understanding of the Lasallian heritage and its influence on contemporary education. It also seeks to deepen the participants’ association for the Lasallian mission and provide skills to become catalysts in their own ministries.
