Benilde-St. Margaret’s School in St. Louis Park, MN, is once again officially a Lasallian ministry. The school was formally welcomed into the Midwest District in a re-affiliation ceremony held April 7, 2014 at the school. This comes following a five-year process and Lasallian assessment.
Brother Larry Schatz, FSC, Midwest District Visitor, and Dr. Scott Kier, Midwest District Superintendent of Lasallian Education, welcomed Benilde-St. Margaret’s at the event, which included a Mass.
The De La Salle Christian Brothers opened Benilde High School at the school’s current site in 1956. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet started Saint Margaret’s Academy in 1907 in downtown Minneapolis. The Brothers withdrew from Benilde in 1970. In 1974 the two schools merged, so the school is also celebrating its 40th anniversary.
