Campaign for Quality Education Announced

Lasallians are encouraged to learn about and support a worldwide effort to provide inclusive, equitable and quality education for all. The campaign, “Education: Let’s Build Our Future Together,” is led by the De La Salle Solidarietà Internazionale ONLUS in Rome. During the 2020-2021 academic year, Lasallian schools around the world will focus on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) toensure universal access to inclusive and equitable quality education.”

This goal promotes the need for everyone to have a quality education to build a sustainable future for the world. It highlights education as the most powerful tool for eradicating poverty, correcting its devastating consequences, and achieving a more just society. SDG 4 has three fundamental principles: 1) education is a fundamental and enabling right, 2) education is public property, and 3) gender equality is closely linked to the right of education for all. Adopted by the United Nations in 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals are being energized globally by support from organizations, schools, commerce and governments with the hopeful achievement of these goals by 2030.

As part of SDG 4, the Lasallian Region of North America will highlight Lasallian Women of Hope, a program that supports projects throughout the world that empower girls and women at the grassroots level to develop sustainable solutions to address obstacles that impede access to education. More information will be released in October.

The SDG 4 campaign includes print and digital materials designed for educators on all levels to use in their ministries. The materials are available in French, Spanish, Italian and English.
