CBC Opens Applications for Lasallian Research and Travel Grants

Update: The application deadline for Lasallian Research Grants and Lasallian Research Travel Grants has been extended to April 5, 2024.

Christian Brothers Conference (CBC) is accepting applications now through March 15, 2024, for Lasallian Research Grants and Lasallian Research Travel Grants. The grants will be awarded to scholars researching projects related to the Lasallian mission and charism.

Administered by CBC, the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN) established the annual grants in 2024 to support exceptional research in areas of interest to the Institute of Brothers of the Christian Schools, Lasallian Brothers and Partners, and Lasallian ministries.

“There are so many areas to be explored and stories to be told, and supporting or promoting research opportunities will encourage researchers, primarily in our Lasallian colleges and universities, to delve deeper into our history, pedagogy, and impact,” said Tom Southard, executive director of CBC. “Supporting a young researcher, a doctoral student or an early-career faculty member in studying areas important to the Lasallian family will hopefully give them a lifelong interest in this work.”

For 2024, grant requests for the Lasallian Research Grants focus on Lasallian pedagogy, Lasallian spirituality, interfaith approaches to Lasallian ministries, and women in the Lasallian mission. Lasallian Research Grants will be funded up to $3,000. Grant requests for the Lasallian Research Travel Grants require that scholars conduct their research at one of the Lasallian archives in North America or in the Institute archives in Rome. Lasallian Research Travel Grants will be funded up to $2,000.

RELAN has organized a grants committee to review applications and determine the potential impact of the grants in the years ahead. Committee members include Brother William Mann, FSC, president emeritus, St. Mary’s University of Minnesota; Dr. Kurt Schackmuth, vice president for student life and chief mission officer, Lewis University; Amy Surak, director of archives and special collections, Manhattan College; and Brother George Van Grieken, FSC, Lasallian Research Coordinator, RELAN.
